In this video, Jerlyn Jones, spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, discusses access to food for individuals and families who are staying home in response to COVID-19. Government agencies have developed flexibilities to assist those participating in programs like the Women Infants and Children (WIC) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to provide increased access to food for individuals needing assistance. The U.S. government has also developed plans for children who participate in the national school lunch and breakfast program so they can have continued access to food during prolonged school closures. For those with family and friends in an age range that is more at risk for complications from COVID-19, consider contacting friends, neighbors and/or family to assist with shopping and delivering groceries to those who require extra care and precaution.
